Castelli's At 255 - Alton

I hate leaving poor reviews, but We were occasional Moonlight visitors decades ago. We live about an hour away, so this was always considered a special endeavor for wife and I, plus friends and relatives. Our visit a couple days ago was not up to par. Premises and parking, Excellent! Service and table attention: Excellent! Atmosphere, Excellent! Salads and sides: Excellent! The big failure, oddly enough was the oft praised fried chicken. They have some way of cutting the pieces that is not normal to us. We found ourselves trying to pick around tiny bones, similar to some pond caught fish. Either that, or (gross) prying chicken bones from our mouth. Over-Breading seemed an attempt to cover what used to be a fantastic chicken experience. It was bad enough to keep us from making the trip again in the future. Sorry, but just relaying our recent experience. Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

This particular establishment was adequate with conditions. The air conditioning did not work well and there was a certain amount of humidity in the building that was uncomfortable for several other guests as well. The floors were poorly maintained and not as clean as they should be. However, the food was absolutely amazing and the staff definitely need to be recognized for their public relations, customer service, and hospitality skills! Way to go Team Castelli's. Kid-friendliness: Kids are allowed and even watched, if for some reason, the guardian has to be excused. 2nd time eating Sunday dinner there. This time we had a LG party(11 people). The wait staff did an excellent job and all of the food was awesome. Lots of leftovers because the portions are huge.
