Segovia Tavern - Oakland

We've been multiple times for dinner and takeout and has always been great. So good we decided to celebrate our daughter's birthday in their private room and it did not disappoint. The family style appetizers and tremendous buffet had our guests raving. 40 adults and 15 kids under the age of 6 was no easy test for the staff and they exceeded expectation both in quality and freshness of food to attentiveness of our guests every need. Would recommend to anyone. A special thanks to Matt, he was our point person for everything. He helped with everything from planning to menu selections, as well as throughout the entire party. He personally made sure we had everything we needed and that our guests plates and glasses remained full throughout. The food is excellent. However, service seems lax. A lot of people walking around doing nothing. Seems like they are not supervised properly. At the end of our meal we had half a skirt steak left over with a good portion of rice, vegetables, and chips. It was obvious we would want it wrapped. When the server came to take our plates, I made a comment I can 't wait to finish that for lunch tomorrow which to me means..wrap it up for me. She smiled and took away all the plates. She never brought back the food we wanted wrapped and when I asked her she said she thru it in the trash but would talk to her manager. The manager came over without apologizing and said the chef had left so he couldn 't make us another one (about 9:30pm). He asked if we wanted dessert on the house or he could take a couple glasses of wine off of our bill which I thought was fair. Also what seemed unprofessional was as we were eating dessert, a few of the service staff were hanging out sitting on the fireplace on their phones while customers were still finishing their meals. Just seems like they need to tighten up their service a bit, it 's a shame because the food is excellent. Food: 5 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 4

This was our 3rd time here. We came twice before covid, and the food was great. My family and I came here for lunch, and we ardered the triple platter foa appetizers. The sausage and calamari were good. The red marinara sauce they gave was so bland it has zero flavor at all. Then, the shrimp in garlic sauce was not flavorful at all barely tasted garlic. My daughter ordered the paella valenciana it was so fishy tasting she couldn't eat it. I ordered the salmon with mango salsa ,thought it would come with fresh mango salsa and it came with some Jar looking salsa. Nothing had flavor at all. Very disappointed this time around . Service was slow we were the only ones at first in the dining area took forever for our waters to get refilled. I think we will stick with Villa Verde in Wayne

Almost walked out while I was going in. Why, because the young man at the greeting area was making fun of the couple that was leaving. My wife made me stay so we were seated. The same young man was now arguing with the waitress. Of course, I got that waitress and she tried to have a smile, but it was not working. The food was good but I just was not able to enjoy the place.
