J Gumbos - Roanoke

The food at this restaurant was not authentic Cajun. I ordered a shrimp Po'Boy and was disappointed to find that the remoulade tasted like ketchup and mayo. The bread pudding and peach cobbler were also lacking in flavor. When we brought this to the owner's attention, she brushed it off, saying she can't please every palate. I wish the food had been more satisfying for someone looking for good Cajun cuisine. The parking situation was limited, with only a few spaces in front of the business. Overall, I was disappointed with the food and the experience.

The sampler was a great choice for trying both spicy and sweet flavors. I appreciate when the rice is cooked perfectly. I had to pause my dinner just to write this review.

We had some date night here and the food is always amazing! This was our first time we brought our children and it was so special. They gave everyone when they were small bead chains for which they were so excited. Everything is always homemade and fresh. Great food, wonderful atmosphere, super sweet family business! The walls are covered with art and letters from guests who love their food and service just like us.

Delicious food and great service! My favorite is the Honey Sriracha Chicken. They also serve 3 duck samplers with rice and French bread. Very delicious! The Gumbo, Jambalaya, Seafood-Etouffe, Voodoo chicken, Bumble bees and much more were all tasteful and the right combination of spices! Very friendly staff and a great place to immerse and have a good meal!

I had the red hot Buffalo chicken and it was packed with flavor and heat. It was our first visit to the restaurant and the owner was very hospitable, offering us complimentary pearls to wear and samples of six different dishes. All the food was delicious and the owner was extremely kind to us and my daughter. I will definitely be returning!
