Tapas Y Copas Funchal

Amazing food and good and attentive service. Definately one of the best restaurants we tried in Funchal. Great food with good value for money

Tapas y Copas has been a favourite of ours since it opened, and we love going there for a light meal in a nice setting. We went here 3 times during this holiday. They have a really good choice of hot and cold tapas dishes, and excellent house wines. The setting is nice and we prefer to sit outside on the balcony overlooking the Estrada Monumental. The staff here are so friendly and helpful, and they have a great buzzer system on each table to call a waiter when you want to order or ask for your bill. It is often quite busy so it may be best to make a reservation.

Let me tell you my unforgettable story with “tapas y copas”: It all started after a hike in the beautiful island of Madeira. My girlfriend and me were ready for another “culinary experience” in Funchal. This time we were a little late so I cheeked on Tripadvisor where to dine around 10 PM and since I’m Spanish and the place “was closing” at midnight we gave it a try. What a huge mistake… First of all we arrived 10.15pm and waited for the waiter to sit us on a table. He said kitchen was closing in 15 min. After I told him that literally outside was written they close at midnight (picture attached) he didn’t have an answer for us and finally after a few seconds, he told us we can sit if we order everything in 15 minutes. We accepted. Once we set down they rushed us to order. We were more or less clear so we ordered. my girlfriend ordered a small bottle of water roll temperature and they served us the biggest chilled one. It took a while until the waiter agreed to bring the small one but unfortunately I had to open it with the silverware because he just dropped there and left (I guess he was in a hurry). while we were eating the other waiter started to clean our table (2 of the plates) while we were chewing the food and not 100% done with the food. 2 minutes later other waiter brought the dessert with half of our food still with plates. His best solution was to drop the desserts on the table and take the rest of the maincourses instead of cleaning them first. during the dessert, we felt they were kicking us out of the place (cleaning everything and basically closing the place) I have to add that we were not the only ones and the faces of the rest of the customers were as speechless as ours. So my veredicto of the place: if you want a good service and to be treated on the proper way you should treat a customer, try going maybe 5 hours before closing. Disaster experience. I couldn’t recommend the place with so many good options to dine in Funchal

Tivemos 4 experiências fantásticas neste restaurante tanto a nível de qualidade de comida como atendimento Mas na última tentativa de mais uma ótima experiência tivemos uma desastrosa experiência chegamos 7 minutos antes da nossa reserva que era para as 12h onde estava um Sr já com idade para estar talvez reformado que nos atendeu muito mal a dizer que era muito cedo e que eles não dormem lá fiquei tão triste que anulei a reserva, não fomos só nós atendidos assim presenciei outra cena igual . Mas o resto do pessoal era todo fantástico . Mas uma laranja pode na fruteira acaba por estragar mais peças de fruta .

A fabulous experience not only the food but the reception by the staff who remembered us from our visits in February. It’s as if we are part of their family. The menu is extensive and they are very flexible with omitting certain items and replacing with others. The atmosphere whether inside or outside is special. A great evening.
